Media Literacy Days 2020
The 2nd Media Literacy Days, organized by the Media Literacy Network, were held in the period from 26 October to 2 November 2020. During the MLD 2020, all interested citizens had the opportunity to join in the activities held as part of this year’s programme: workers, debates, webinars and other online events focused on different aspects of media literacy. Due to the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic, all events under MLD 2020 were organized and took place on the Internet, following the example of UNESCO’s Global Week on Media and Information Literacy (24-31 October 2020). This was the second time that our country joined in the marking of the Global Week on Media and Information Literacy, during which UNESCO sent out a call on all to fight disinformation using media literacy as a powerful tool, and take part in the events dedicated to media literacy regardless of where in the world they lived or worked. This is why the motto of DMP 2020 was "Test Every News With No Excuse"

The Media and Information Literacy Alliance Response to COVID-19
The Global Alliance for Partnerships on Media and Information Literacy (GAPMIL) assessed that disinformation and misinformation are like a disease – problematic, contagious, risky, and, in times of a pandemic - a matter of life or death. That is why UNESCO and GAPMIL members provided Response to the infodemic, which consists of webinars, exchange of useful information, support for crowdsourcing MIL activities against COVID-19, guidelines, educational resources, youth ambassadors’ campaigns, communication through MIL CLIKS etc. All information are available on the following click. The Macedonian Media Literacy Network is an active GAPMIL member since last year and is part of the current Response to COVID-19. At the moment, the Guidelines for Safe and Professional Reporting on Coronavirus by ZNM and SEMM.

The Network at a Time of Covid-19 Crisis: Free Movies for Children and Adults
In cooperation with the on-demand video platform Cinesquare.net, the newest member of the Network, Planet-M, has made it possible for children and teenagers from Macedonia and 12 other Balkan countries to watch, for free, 40 movies that are currently on the platform, within the segment titled KidSqare.

Media Literacy Network in times of Covid-19: Support from the Agency
The Agency for Audio and Audiovisual Media Services given the specific position of the media organizations in a state of emergency due to coronavirus, their socially responsible role in informing about these conditions, as well as the possible consequences on their economic performance, the Agency provided financial assistance - a donation to address the consequences of coronavirus (COVID-19), in the total amount of 105.000.000 Denars (Euro 1,694,681).

Media Literacy Network in times of Covid-19: On-line lectures and podcasts
Youth Education Forum MOF, through their internet-based Radio MOF, conducts on-line lectures and podcasts using non-formal education through digital tools. It also holds online discussions, debates and workshops. MOF uses social media to post educational videos on the situation and how we should behave. One example of their work can be viewed at:

Media Literacy Network in times of Covid-19: Serious and responsibility amongst the media - members of the Network
The Public Service Broadcaster MRT is broadcasting a special program "TV Classroom" designed to make it easier for students to follow school learning programs during interruptions of regular school teaching. Also, within the morning program "Macedonia In the Morning", MRT1 reports daily about the pandemic and reveals misinformation about the pandemic.

Media Literacy Network in times of Covid-19: Sharing experiences for better professionalization
The Macedonian Institute of Media (MIM) has already launched a Campaign to Support Professional Journalism, which consists of short video testimonials by professional journalists, editors and photo reporters. With the entrance of the contagion into the Macedonian society, these videos are broadcast on the Macedonian Public Broadcasting Service in the function of dealing with the Covid - 19 pandemic.

A. The Council of Media Ethics of Macedonia (SEMM) and the Association of Journalists of Macedonia (AJM) (both members of the Media Literacy Network) developed Guidelines for the Safe and Professional Reporting of Coronavirus (COVID-19) (Available in English at:

The Guidelines are prepared as part of the efforts to foster the important role of the media in understanding properly the occurrence of coronavirus, its consequences and ways of effective prevention.

The Institute of Communication Studies adjusted its online resources aimed at recognizing misinformation and disinformation overabundant in corona outbreak. Through its both websites, ICS has published numerous articles, blogs, videos and various media content on media and news literacy tips.
