In the next two months at “Europe House” Skopje, all interested visitors will be able to view the multimedia exhibition “The Glass Room: The Digital World – a trap for your personal data”.
The exhibition consists of illustrated posters and video animations, designed and prepared by Tactical Tech, an international non-governmental organization based in Berlin, which vividly capture the types of data we leave behind as we use the Internet every day.
At the opening of the exhibition, Ambassador David Geer, Head of the Delegation of the European Union, emphasized that it is very important for users to be aware of how they share their data online and while using digital devices. “The message is not that we should not use digital devices, but how to be aware that we should use them more wisely,” Ambassador Geer pointed out.
Websites, apps, social media and “smart” devices are constantly striving for the same goal – to provide IT companies with billions of data. Not just any data, but our data. That’s why it’s extremely important for internet users to know what’s really going on behind the screens – in the digital world and why it’s important to take control of your online life.
Visitors to the exhibition will be able to find out why our phone numbers are not just ours, how much “free” apps cost, how they profile us, what they can learn about us through our daily usage habits and how the data industry works.
The exhibition is organized by the Delegation of the European Union and the Macedonian Media Institute.
