In the presence of around 50 secondary school students, the Complaints Commission of the Council of Media Ethics of Macedonia (CMEM) held a public session on 29 October, during which four ongoing complaints were reviewed and decisions were made on whether the media outlets concerned had violated the Code of Journalists of Macedonia.
Following the session, the young participants, students from high schools and secondary schools in Skopje, Bogdanci and Gostivar, raised questions on important and topical issues, including impartiality in decision-making on submitted complaints, the credibility of journalism, and the protection of freedom of expression.
The public session, which traditionally forms part of the programme of the 2026 Media Literacy Days in the country, proved too short to satisfy the students’ curiosity. However, CMEM promised to meet with them again in the future to discuss the importance of ethical and responsible journalism, as opposed to manipulative and propagandistic reporting that is vulnerable to disinformation, foreign interference and hate speech.
