More than 100 young creative people shot short videos at the workshops for short feature and documentary films at the “Giffoni” Youth Film Festival, which took place from 4 to 8 October in Skopje.
The Short Feature Film Workshop guided high-school students from the development of an idea, through filming, to post-production, while introducing them to the dramaturgical and visual elements such as plot, colour, frames and editing. The participants worked on creating stories with a classic three-act structure, visually expressed with precise film grammar.
At the parallel short documentary workshop, the young authors explored how documentarians use space and emotion to create location drama. They were trained for creative use of the camera, the light and the sound, thus capturing the character of the chosen location and bringing their own perspective to the documentary style of storytelling.
Divided into teams, the participants in the workshop created 24 videos in which they applied the filmmaking techniques and skills they learned.

The workshops were organized by the Institute of Communication Studies and IREX as part of the USAID’s “YouThink” Media Literacy Project.
