In the past two weeks, the GANIMED association from Bitola successfully conducted seven workshops, planned for 140 Bitola high school students from 7 schools from Bitola. The last workshop was held on November 1, 2018 together with twenty students from “Kuzman Shapkarev” SOZU. The main goal of these workshops is the informal education of young high school students in media literacy, by stimulating critical opinion, pluralism of views and spreading democratic values.
After completing the planned activities, the participants showed great satisfaction and left richer with new knowledge and experiences. Ile Kalinovski, a student from the fourth year at “Kuzman Shapkarev” SOZU, said the following: “I have attended workshops many times, but I especially liked this one today because of the choice of topic. Media literacy is a very current and at the same time important topic because we are surrounded by media every day. It is very important to be properly informed. I had a great time today. I would like to participate in similar events in the future.”
His statement was followed by the student Sara Sotirovska, also a student at “Kuzman Shapkarev” SOZU, saying: “The biggest impression from today’s workshop was the session from which I learned how to recognize and distinguish fake from real news.”
The next activity from the “Topic for Dilemma” project is the announced competition on Media Literacy and Critical Thinking in two categories, best slogan and best quote. Bitola high school students who want to participate in this competition need to create a poster with a slogan or a quote that will promote media literacy or encourage critical thinking.
