The Institute of Communication Studies is inviting you to the launch of the Dictionary of Media Literacy, which will be held on Wednesday, 31 May 2023, at 12:00 hrs at the Cultural Information Center (KIC) in Skopje.
This lexicographic edition is the first serious attempt to systematize the terms that have appeared in the digital era, with the new ways of communication, the development of media and the appearance of new tools and activities in the online sphere. The purpose of the Dictionary is to serve as a unified glossary and as a guide for all those who want and need to obtain knowledge about media literacy.
The Dictionary offers interpretations of more than 700 terms in the field of media literacy, communicology, journalism, linguistics, philosophy, anthropology, law, economics, etc. It is available as an online publication in Macedonian and in Albanian, and also includes the English equivalents of each of the terms. The majority of entries also provide additional information for the terms (historical facts, functional information, frequency of use, stylistic characteristics, etc.), so that the user may acquire a complete idea of the term itself. As this is a specific interdisciplinary matter, 15 distinguished theorists and practitioners from various fields and educational institutions took part in its preparation. The idea is to continue updating and expanding this publication with new concepts in the future.
The Institute of Communication Studies coordinated the process of creating the Dictionary of Media Literacy within the frameworks of the USAID’s “YouThink” Media Literacy Project, implemented by IREX in partnership with the Macedonian Media Institute and the Youth Educational Forum.
